In short

Pakistan salary income tax is charged in progressive slabs set each year by the Finance Act, with income up to PKR 600,000 exempt and the top rate 35%. Tax is deducted monthly by the employer; the tax year runs 1 July to 30 June.

How Pakistan salary income tax is calculated

Pakistan uses a slab (progressive) system for salaried individuals: income up to a threshold is tax-free, and each higher slab is taxed at a higher marginal rate, with a fixed base amount carried forward from the previous slab. Slabs and rates are set annually in the Finance Act and apply for the tax year running 1 July to 30 June.

This calculator uses annual taxable income (monthly salary × 12) to find the correct slab, then applies: tax = base amount + (rate × income above the slab floor).

Assumptions

  • Uses the salaried-individual slabs in the rules file, which are marked unverified until confirmed against the current Finance Act.
  • Monthly input is annualised (×12) before the slabs are applied, then divided back.
  • No deductions, tax credits or other income are considered.

Worked example (illustrative — verify current slabs)

PKR 150,000 per month

Annual income = PKR 1,800,000
Falls in the 11% bracket (PKR 1,200,000–2,200,000): tax = 6,000 + 11% × (1,800,000 − 1,200,000) = PKR 72,000/year
≈ PKR 6,000/month

Frequently asked questions

Are these the current tax year's slabs?

This tool is published with the most recently known slabs at build time. Always check the banner at the top of this page — if it says the slabs are unverified, confirm the current figures at fbr.gov.pk before relying on the result.

Does this include tax credits or deductions?

No — this is a straightforward slab calculation on gross taxable salary. It does not account for tax credits (such as for pension contributions or charitable donations), which can reduce your final liability.

Is a non-filer taxed differently?

Certain withholding tax rates differ for non-filers on transactions like property and vehicle purchases, but salary income tax slabs themselves apply the same way. Filing your return has other benefits and is separate from this calculation.

How is salary tax deducted in Pakistan?

Employers withhold tax monthly under Section 149 based on the annual slabs and pay it to FBR; you claim any adjustment when filing your return.

Do I need to file a return if tax is already deducted?

Yes if your income exceeds the threshold or you meet other filing conditions — filing also keeps you on the Active Taxpayer List, which lowers withholding rates elsewhere.

People also ask

How much tax is deducted from a 100,000 salary in Pakistan?

PKR 100,000 a month is PKR 1,200,000 a year — exactly the top of the 1% band — so annual tax is PKR 6,000, or PKR 500 a month, under the Finance Act 2026 slabs (Tax Year 2027).

What is the tax on a 50,000 salary in Pakistan?

None. PKR 50,000 a month is PKR 600,000 a year, which is the tax-free threshold for salaried persons.

What are the salary tax slabs for 2026-27 in Pakistan?

0% up to PKR 600,000; 1% to 1.2 million; 11% above 1.2 million (plus PKR 6,000); 20% above 2.2 million (plus 116,000); 25% above 3.2 million (plus 316,000); 29% above 4.1 million (plus 541,000); 32% above 5.6 million (plus 976,000); 35% above 7 million (plus 1,424,000).

How is salary tax calculated in Pakistan monthly?

Annualise the salary (× 12), apply the slab to get the yearly tax, then divide by 12 — employers deduct that amount each month under Section 149 and adjust in the final months if pay changes.

Is there a surcharge on high salaries in Pakistan?

Yes — a 9% surcharge on the tax (not the income) applies where taxable income exceeds PKR 10 million a year; the calculator applies it automatically.

Does the tax-free threshold apply to everyone?

PKR 600,000 applies to salaried individuals where salary is more than 75% of total income; business individuals use the same threshold but different slab rates.

What is the tax on 200,000 salary per month in Pakistan?

PKR 2,400,000 a year falls in the 20% band: 116,000 + 20% × 200,000 = PKR 156,000 a year, about PKR 13,000 a month.

Can I reduce salary tax in Pakistan?

Legally only through tax credits and deductions — approved pension-fund contributions, donations to approved institutions, and the teacher/researcher reduction — plus staying on the Active Taxpayers List to avoid higher withholding elsewhere.
