In short

For Tax Year 2027 (from 1 July 2026) salary in Pakistan is taxed at nil up to PKR 600,000, then 1%, 11%, 20%, 25%, 29%, 32% and 35% above PKR 7 million, withheld monthly by the employer; a PKR 150,000 monthly salary pays PKR 6,000 a month of tax and, with EOBI (PKR 370) and 10% provident fund, takes home about PKR 134,630. The Finance Act 2026 cut tax for salaries between PKR 2.2 million and 7 million a year.

Who this is for: Salaried employees in Pakistan checking a payslip or offer, HR teams running payroll, and anyone comparing take-home under the 2026-27 slabs.

Not tax or legal advice. An estimate for a standard private-sector salary; exemptions, arrears, provident fund rules and provincial levies vary by employer. Confirm with your payroll or a tax consultant.

From gross to take-home in Pakistan (Tax Year 2027)

A Pakistani payslip has three standard deductions: income tax withheld under section 149 on the projected annual salary, EOBI (1% of the PKR 37,000 minimum wage — PKR 370 — with the employer paying 5%), and the provident fund contribution if the employer runs one (commonly 8.33%–10% of basic, matched). There is no national insurance or health levy; provincial social security is paid by the employer.

  • TY2027 slabs (from 1 July 2026): nil to PKR 600,000; 1% to 1.2m; 11% to 2.2m; 20% to 3.2m; 25% to 4.1m; 29% to 5.6m; 32% to 7m; 35% above. The Finance Act 2026 split the old 23% and 30% bands into 20/25/29/32, which cuts tax for most salaries between PKR 2.2m and 7m.
  • Surcharge removed for salaried: the 10% surcharge on incomes above PKR 10 million (s.4AB) no longer applies to salaried persons from TY2027.
  • Exempt items: medical allowance up to 10% of basic (if no free medical), employer PF contributions within the Sixth Schedule limits, and reimbursements against receipts.
  • Cost to employer: gross + 5% EOBI on minimum wage + PF match + medical insurance + provincial social security (6% of wages up to the ceiling in Punjab/Sindh) + gratuity accrual where applicable.

Assumptions

  • Annual taxable salary = gross × 12 + bonus; tax at the TY2027 slabs (nil to 600k; 1%; 11%; 20%; 25%; 29%; 32%; 35% above 7m) ÷ 12 per month.
  • EOBI employee 1% of the PKR 37,000 minimum wage (employer 5%); PF = basic (gross × basic %) × your rate, matched by the employer.
  • Cost to employer = salary + bonus + EOBI 5% + PF match + medical; the 2025–26 comparison uses the six-band 1/11/23/30/35% slabs.

Worked example

PKR 150,000 a month, 10% PF on a 60% basic, EOBI registered

Annual salary PKR 1,800,000 → tax = 6,000 + 11% × 600,000 = PKR 72,000 (PKR 6,000 a month; 4.0% effective, 11% marginal). EOBI PKR 370; PF 10% × 90,000 = PKR 9,000. Take-home PKR 134,630 a month. Cost to employer: 1,800,000 + EOBI 22,200 + PF match 108,000 + medical 30,000 = PKR 1,960,200. The same salary under the 2025–26 slabs paid the same PKR 72,000 — the 2026 cuts start above PKR 2.2 million.

Frequently asked questions

How much tax on a PKR 100,000 salary in Pakistan?

PKR 1,200,000 a year falls at the top of the 1% band: tax is PKR 6,000 a year — PKR 500 a month — for Tax Year 2027.

How much tax on PKR 200,000 per month?

PKR 2,400,000 a year → 116,000 + 20% × 200,000 = PKR 156,000 a year (PKR 13,000 a month), down from PKR 162,000 under the 2025–26 slabs.

What is the tax on a PKR 50,000 salary?

None — PKR 600,000 a year is within the tax-free threshold; EOBI (PKR 370) and any PF are the only deductions.

Is bonus taxed separately in Pakistan?

No — bonuses, allowances and arrears are added to salary and taxed at the slab rates for the year; employers usually withhold the extra tax in the month the bonus is paid.

Do salaried people have to file a tax return?

Yes if taxable income exceeds PKR 600,000 (or you own a car over 1000cc or property); the employer's withholding is credited and a return keeps you on the Active Taxpayers List, which halves most other withholding taxes.

How is EOBI calculated on salary?

On the minimum wage, not your actual salary: 1% from you (PKR 370) and 5% from the employer (PKR 1,850) a month, earning a pension of 2% of the insurable wage per year of service after 15 years.

What is the tax-free salary limit in Pakistan?

PKR 600,000 a year — PKR 50,000 a month — for Tax Year 2027; the first PKR 600,000 of everyone's salary is untaxed and the 1% band runs to PKR 1.2 million.

How much is a PKR 300,000 monthly salary after tax?

PKR 3.6 million a year → 316,000 + 25% × 400,000 = PKR 416,000 of tax (PKR 34,667 a month), leaving about PKR 265,000 a month before EOBI and PF.
