In short
Instagram deletes a line break when the line before it ends with a space or an emoji followed by a space, and collapses more than two blank lines; stripping trailing spaces and using an invisible braille blank (⠀) on empty lines keeps the spacing. Limits: 2,200 characters and 30 hashtags, with about 125 characters visible before '…more'.
Who this is for: Instagram, TikTok and Facebook creators who want clean paragraph spacing and hidden hashtags.
Why Instagram deletes your line breaks — and how to keep them
- Instagram removes a line break if the line before it ends with a space or an emoji followed by a space, and collapses runs of blank lines. This tool strips trailing spaces and normalises paragraphs so the breaks survive when pasted.
- Where an app still collapses blank lines (some Android keyboards, Facebook comments), the invisible dot option places a blank braille character (⠀) on each empty line so the line counts as content.
- Hidden hashtags: putting hashtags five blank lines below the caption keeps them out of sight under "…more" while they still count for reach.
- Limits: Instagram 2,200 characters and 30 hashtags; TikTok 4,000; X 280; LinkedIn 3,000; YouTube description 5,000. Only the first ~125 characters (Instagram) or ~100 (TikTok) show before "more", so put the hook first.
Emoji count as 2 or more characters on X and some platforms; the counter here counts each visible character once, so stay a little under the limit on X.

Assumptions
- Trailing spaces removed; 3+ consecutive newlines collapsed to a blank line; optional braille blank (U+2800) on blank lines.
- Hidden hashtags: trailing hashtags moved below five blank lines.
- Counts: visible characters (each emoji counted once), hashtags, mentions; limits per platform as listed.
Worked example
Hook line (89 characters, fits before "…more"), two paragraphs separated by blank lines, hashtags moved five lines down → 612 characters, 12/30 hashtags, 8 line breaks preserved. Copy, paste into Instagram, post — the spacing holds.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Instagram remove spaces in my caption?
Trailing spaces before a line break, emoji at the end of a line, and more than two consecutive blank lines all cause Instagram to collapse the spacing. Format here first and the breaks are kept.
Do hidden hashtags still work?
Yes — hashtags anywhere in the caption count for discovery; placing them below blank lines only hides them visually.
How many hashtags should I use?
Instagram allows 30; 3–8 relevant ones currently perform as well as 30 generic ones. TikTok and LinkedIn favour 3–5.
Is my caption stored?
No — formatting happens in your browser.
How do I add spaces between paragraphs on Instagram?
Write the caption here with real line breaks, remove trailing spaces, and copy — or use the invisible dot option if your keyboard app strips blank lines.
How do I hide hashtags on Instagram?
Put them after five blank lines at the end of the caption; the tool does this automatically.
