Merge PDF Files
Combine several PDF files into one in the order you choose, optionally picking page ranges from each — merged on your device, never uploaded.
In short
Merging PDFs copies the selected pages of each file into a new document in the chosen order without re-rendering, so quality is unchanged and the output size is roughly the sum of the inputs; page ranges like 1-3,7 pick specific pages, and password-protected files must be unlocked first.
Who this is for: Anyone assembling documents — visa and job applications, invoices, reports — into one PDF.
How merging works
Each PDF is opened in your browser with the pdf-lib library, the pages you select are copied into a new document in the order you set, and the result is saved as a single file. Page content, fonts, images, links and form fields are copied as they are — nothing is re-rendered, so quality is unchanged and the merged size is roughly the sum of the inputs.
- Page ranges let you merge only the pages you need: 1-3,7 takes pages 1, 2, 3 and 7 of that file.
- Password-protected PDFs cannot be read; remove the password first. Scanned PDFs merge fine.
- Typical uses: combining a visa application with passport and bank-statement scans, assembling an invoice pack, or joining chapters of a report.
Assumptions
- pdf-lib copies the selected pages into a new document in list order.
- Page ranges parsed as comma-separated numbers and ranges; blank = all.
- Encrypted PDFs fail with a message; outlines are not copied.
Worked example
Application form (4 pages) + passport scan (1) + bank statements (pages 1–3 of a 12-page PDF) + employment letter (1) → one 9-page PDF named visa-pack.pdf, in that order, in a few seconds.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a file size or page limit?
No fixed limit; browsers handle files of 100 MB+ on a desktop. Very large scans on a phone may run out of memory.
Does merging reduce quality?
No — pages are copied, not re-rendered. To shrink the result, use the compress-PDF tool afterwards.
Can I merge JPG images with a PDF?
Convert the images to PDF first with the JPG-to-PDF tool, then merge.
Will bookmarks and form fields survive?
Form fields and links on copied pages are kept; document-level bookmarks (outlines) are not carried across.
How do I combine PDF files into one for free?
Select the files, set the order with the arrows, optionally type page ranges, and click Merge — the combined PDF is created in your browser.
Can I merge only certain pages?
Yes — enter a range such as 1-3,7 next to each file.
